Gil Selinger, Cello, Live Composition
Gil brings a wonderful variety of world class cello-playing to your living room by a fun and rigorous study with his students! While performing in a wide variety of settings from symphony orchestras and chamber music to jazz ensembles, modern improvisation, and solo cello sonic explorations, he has been guest faculty around the world, including Austria, France, Switzerland, Colorado, and New York. When not touring the world as a cellist and live-composer, Gil has been based in New York City from 1995 to 2016, then Colorado from 2016-2022. Now we are lucky to have him here in Salem where he has joined our wonderful team!
Classes Gil Teaches
In addition to coaching chamber groups, Gil will teach workshops on live composition, in particular learning the signs of Soundpainting, a live composing sign language. Gil will also be giving private cello lessons during the week.
Rosie Samter, Violin, Viola, Chamber Music
Roselie aka "Rosie" tours the world as a violist in her video game music group called the Videri Sting Quartet. When not busy touring she loves working with students of all ages and inspiring them to play the music they love on the viola. She holds degrees from The Boston Conservatory and Eastern Washington University, and has been artist in residence at the Banff Centre in Canada. She placed first in the MusicFest Northwest competition’s unaccompanied Bach division, and has played with the Tuscaloosa Symphy, Cape Ann Symphony, Brookline Symphony… and she can train you to be the next star on the viola with viola lessons, too! Violin lessons in Salem is also a great choice with Rosie.
Classes Rosie Teaches
Rosie’s specialty is making music fun and exhilarating through video games. She will be giving workshops on learning themes and music from different video games. She will coach this music and other chamber music workshops, and she will give private lessons. She will also give lessons in strings practice technique and improvisation.
Max Ignas, Trumpet
Max makes trumpet fun!! Max is the Visiting Lecturer of Trumpet at Salem State University and is currently finishing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the New England Conservatory of Music where he is the first classical trumpet player admitted to the NEC doctoral program. He received his Bachelor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees at the University of Oklahoma.

Dennis Shafer, Director, Woodwinds, Soundpainting
Dennis loves working with kids and making saxophone lessons and other lessons FUN! He has a passion for music instills this in his students. Dennis has over 15 years experience teaching all ages and styles of music, and holds degrees at Longy of Bard College, Boulogne Conservatory (France), The Boston Conservatory, and Brooklyn College. He feels it is important to organize performances for his students. His students have performed in many venues from Harvard Square to Carnegie Hall. Learn saxophone today with Dennis Shafer!
